BENJAMIN MILLS |
This gun was made by Benjamin Mills of Lexington, Kentucky, probably in the 1870's. Benjamin Mills was a very accomplished gunsmith and served as the Master Armorer at Harper's Ferry Arsenal before the Civil War. As a matter of fact, he was among those taken prisoner by John Brown when he attempted to take over the arsenal. This gun has a 25 inch barrel with a 44 3/4" overall length. It appears to fire a .36 caliber center fire cartridge. The trap door mechanism is fairly intricate but still seems to function well. The top of the breech block is marked "B MILLS & SON, LEXINGTON, KY." The gun is overall a smooth brown patina, with moderate wear to an otherwise solid stock. It is a rare example of Benjamin Mills' ingenuity and craftsmanship. Price $3,250. REDUCED $2,250! SOLD!!
